Where to Watch the Santorini Sunset
Oia’s sunset earns every bit of its fame. The light moves across the caldera and down the face of the cliff. The windmills and the blue domes hold the last of it, and the whole village turns to watch. Seeing it well is a matter of position, which means a reserved terrace, a private roof, or a table secured before the light begins to go.
The island offers several other vantage points worth building an evening around. Imerovigli sits higher on the caldera rim, and Skaros Rock rewards a short walk with an uninterrupted view along the whole western cliff. The village of Akrotiri in the south gives a completely different composition, looking back north with the caldera opening in front of it. A boat puts the sunset at eye level from the water. Benarrivati arranges all of these, and curated travel experiences on Santorini often include more than one sunset, since no two of them look alike.
